I've lived long enough to appreciate the Greatest Generation, but also to appreciate the younger ones coming along to take our place. Here are videos of all the tributes to Sheriff Carter that evening....
I'm not totally out of business; I might be able to help you somewhere down the line. As I told Crawford, don't wait until you get in trouble. Come to see me before you get in trouble.
Commissioner Carter did not attend the ribbon cutting for the paving of Quarterman Road, but he at least as much as anyone else was responsible for the remaining canopy you can see in the background. When the rest of the commission and staff were not interested in talking, he talked to us at length and got others in the county government involved. We did wait until the trouble started, but he did help get us out of it.
G. Robert Carter will be missed.

G. Robert Carter will be missed. He was the most honest man in local Valdosta politics that I have ever known. He had integrity and honesty, two rarities in public officials.
I am so sorry to learn of his passing. His family is in my prayers.
