Newsflash: Lowndes County Commission does right thing about rezoning!

Commissioner Raines expressed puzzlement as to what to do about rezoning for Nottinghill on Cat Creek since he thought the previous day that there was a deal between the developer and the neighbors, but it turned out there was not. Commissioner Powell recommended tabling until next meeting so the developer and the neighbors could try again to work something out.

Commissioner Powell made a motion

to table, Commissioner Evans seconded, they both voted for, and as near as I could tell Commissioner Raines did not vote. So the Lowndes County Commission decided to table this rezoning until its next meeting, which is Tuesday 26 July, its next meeting about rezoning, which is probably the first one in August, with work session Monday morning 25 July (tomorrow). tomorrow morning's work session cancelled.

Of course, that's not the whole story, because the county still thinks that part of Cat Creek Road is supposed to be suburban. More on that later.

Meanwhile, this result is much better than last year, when the same developer said he wasn't going to budge on lot sizes and the Commission caved and voted for the rezoning despite massive opposition from the neighbors on Old Pine Road.

Maybe the Commission learned something from the lack of opposition to REZ-2011-05 - Laurel Brooke in May of this year, which had the lot size the Old Pine Road neighbors had recommended.
