Videos: Water, water, water, waste! and planning? @ LCC 2012-10-08

The big news was the waste disposal railroad, but the Lowndes County Commission also heard about three water issues (one a rezoning), plus a beer license, revenue bonds, community planning month, and a health fair at its Work Session this morning.

   Some condition was in their packets, but we have no idea what it was.
6. For Consideration
   1. Bevel Creek Lift Station Pump Repair
      Pump 1 repair cost $15,907, and pump 2 $32,115. Commissioner Raines Powell wanted to know about warranties. Answer: new pump 1 year, rebuilt pump 90 days.
   2. Alapaha Waterline size Increase
      A developer is extending a water line for two houses, and Mike Allen would like to increase the size of the water main leading to it. Cost not stated.
   3. Beer License — Naylor's Pantry — 8777 E. Hwy 135
      Stephanie Black described the request. Commissioner Joyce Evans expressed concern about nearby churches.
   4. Refunding Revenue Bonds
      The speaker (?) clarified that no new debt was being created. The county is merely refinancing existing bonds. He said two months ago he estimated savings at $1,400,000. Friday that number had gone up to $1,675,000.
   5. Solid Waste Management Request for Proposal
      They vote tomorrow on something not discussed in public, with no public hearing, that will raise rates. Follow the link for details.
7. Reports
   1. Community Planning Month Proclamation
      County Planner Jason Davenport said October is community planning month, joint with Valdosta. He supplied the Commission with a list of event dates and places. He didn't show them to the public, but they're already on the Valdosta City website.
   2. Employee Health Fair
      Joe Pritchard said last week they had a health fair, and asked Suzanne (last name unstated) to talk about that.
8. Citizens Wishing to be Heard Please State Name And Address
   That's only in the Regular Session, which is tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM.

Then they went into an unscheduled executive session for client/attorney privilege.
